Line to Watch: Rad by Rad Hourani

31 Jul

radbyradhourani

Anyone who might loosely follow this blog has probably figured out that I’m an avid Alexander Wang fan. So being down with Wang inevitably makes me an auto-fan of Rad Hourani– the Jordan-born, Montreal-bred designer who’s also a master of the drapey, unisex friendly, pseudo-punk chic style for the long and lean type. And having only released four collections since starting his eponymous label in 2007, this awesomely-named designer (pun intended) has now put out a diffusion collection– which luckily for all of us, is more affordable ($100-$400) and even more wearable than his signature collections. The fabrics seem loose-fitting and luxurious– and best of all, getting the most bang out of your buck– all 15 looks are totally interchangeable for girls/boys due to Hourani’s affinity for adrogyny.

Must Have Now: Leather & Lace Fingerless Studded Glove

28 Jul

Sweet Marie Fingerless Leather Glove

One of the many legacies that Michael Jackson left behind was the trend of wearing the solitary glove. In a tribute to him, in addition to the fact that this handmade piece by Sweet Marie for San Francisco-based t-shirt line Improperazzi is just pretty amazing, this glove will probably be making an introduction into my accessories line-up. Score it yourself for just $40. And while you’re at it, you can pick up one of these MJ tribute tees (see pics after the jump) to complete the ensemble.

DIY Friday: Doo.Ri Inspired Embellished Tights

24 Jul

Cocorosa embellished tights main

I came across this cute DIY, which reminisces of the embellished tights seen at the Doo.Ri F/W 09 runway show, from style blogger Cocorosa. And if like her, you enjoy prancing around lower Manhattan in poofy white tutus, these tights are perfect for you, too.

Blogger du Jour: Luxirare, the Faceless Fashionista-Foodie

23 Jul

Luxirare Main

For whatever reason, Ji of Luxirare likes to remain about as elusive as the details behind her creations. No matter what, her face in photos is always obscured by hair, pixelated, or she’s just completely headless. While it’s somewhat baffling to me why someone with such amazing talent and style would want to hide her identity, it definitely adds to her charm and mystique. And not only does she have a passion for fashion, she’s got a flair for food– displayed in orgasmically-delicious looking pictures of her artisanal masterpieces.

See some of her beautiful creations here.

Chanel Paper Bag

Chanel Tote Bag

Everyone needs a good fake Chanel bag in her arsenal– unless she can afford the real deal,  in which case, kudos you lucky bitch. But when dollars fail you, rely on your next best option.

Here are some good fall back, recession-proof options I’ve seen lately– courtesy of Jak & Jill/Chic Intuition (first photo) and Oonagh O’Hagen For Browns Focus Chanel Tote Bag.

Alexander Wang Wool Double Breasted Blazer

I’m selling some of my own pieces on eBay– ones that I loved when I purchased them, but just never found the right occasions to wear– so I might as well pass them off to another good owner who can make better use. Check out the blazer (pictured above), and other pieces after the jump.

Mischa Goes Mental, in “Homecoming”… and in life

16 Jul

Apparently Mischa’s movies are starting to mirror her real life. Her new movie “Homecoming” (about a small town girl that goes totally psycho trying to win back her high school boyfriend) opens tomorrow, but she won’t be attending the premiere as she was hospitalized under psych hold earlier this week. Honestly, she’s never struck me as the type of celebrity to go mental Britney-style, but maybe what little emotion she had to stir up to get into character for this role finally sent her over the edge.

Must Have Now: Free People Corset Heel

15 Jul

Jeffrey Campbell Corset Heels

Clearly these are blatant knock-off of the amazing Ann Demeulemeester lace-up boots, minus a million dollars– which is precisely why I need them immediately. Score them at Free People (for $198) before they’re out of your size!

See more pics after the jump.

Music I’m Feeling: Elevator Fight

13 Jul

ElevatorFight Zoe Kravitz

Zoe Kravitz, the famous progeny of Lenny Kravitz and Lisa Bonet, definitely inherited all the right qualities from her parents: looks, acting chops, and even the rock star gene. While in the past few years she’s become quite the style icon and actress (scoring parts in indie flicks Birds of America and The Greatest), she now can add front woman of the Philly-based band Elevator Fight to her resume.

Fun facts about EF: they describe their own music as a “liquified panda” and put Obama on their guest list– just in case he feels like popping into an indie rock show.

Check Zoe out in action in a live performance and some behind the scenes interviews with the band from 215 Magazine and Couch Sessions.
