Just watch. If anyone can bring back ancient Rome’s royal silver-leafed headbands and make it 2010′s next big thing, it’s newcomer singer Coco Sumner (who I’ve posted about before). See her rock it in this new music video if you’re a non-believer.
Music I’m Feeling: I Blame Coco/Coco Sumner
14 JunNormally I am very anti-nepotism. Kids who use their last names to get ahead and don’t have an ounce of the same talent as their parents are pretty low on my respect totem pole. But once in a while, one comes along that I think lives up to the legacy, which is where Coco Sumner comes in. The daughter of Sting and actress Trudie Styler, it makes perfect sense that she inherited both the music and looks genes. The 18-year-old singer/songwriter (whose uniquely raspy voice makes her sound much older) was signed to Island Records late last year and is in now in the process of recording her debut album in Jamaica, which seems fitting as her musical style is heavily influenced by reggae/ska. She’s also been featured in the movie Stardust and last year’s Burberry campaign alongside Agyness Deyn and Lily Donaldson. Singing, acting, modeling. Clearly, Coco’s got a few talents to fall back on. Not to mention, the girl’s got great style, which has the Brits anticipating her evolution into one of the next young fashion icons. I just hope she can stay in the tabloids for that and not for getting into a huge drug scandal– since she’s also rumored to be the new girlfriend of Kate Moss’ infamous on-and-off-junkie-ex, Pete Doherty. Oh, Coco. I don’t blame you. We all go for the bad boys.
Even though her album has yet to drop, check out some of her tracks here.
